Born in Graz, Austria, Spreitz studied painting in Graz, Austria; photography in Santa Barbara, California; at the Art Center School, Los Angeles, California; came to Canada in 1952, and studied painting under Herbert Siebner, Victoria, British Columbia. Working in oil, monoprints, mixed media, and collage, he is known for his abstract works with machines and geometrical figures. His subjects explore the influence of technology on contemporary society. He is also a noted photographer and filmmaker. He was a founding member of The Limners, and remains active in Victoria. His work is in the collections of the AGGV and CCAB.
